This isn't me. It is my dog as a puppy.

This isn’t me. It is my dog as a puppy.

I’m a mystery author who grew up watching TV shows like Matlock, Monk, and Murder She Wrote. (It’s pure coincidence that they all begin with an M though my current favorite show is Murdock Mysteries.)

Now I write books with quirky characters and a touch of romance. I keep them clean (no cursing, sex, or gratuitous violence) because I want my books to be the kind you could share with your teenager or your mother.

Alongside being a writer, I’m also a wife, an animal lover, and a new artist. I love coffee and painting and drinking coffee while painting. I also love to cook. I try not to do that while painting because, well, you shouldn’t eat paint.

My husband and I share our home with a blue Great Dane, six cats (all rescues), and two budgies (who are both the littlest and the loudest).

When will the next book be available?

The best place to look for upcoming release dates and progress on the next book in the series is my Books page. I keep it updated with buy links, release dates, and progress trackers.

How long does it take you to write each book?

That’s a tricky question actually. Each book is unique. The quickest I’ve finished a book is a month, but some have taken me two or three months to complete.

Why did you decide to set your Maple Syrup Mysteries in Michigan/make Nicole from Virginia?

Even though I’m Canadian, I live right along the Michigan border, and I spent many happy times as a child vacationing in Michigan on our boat.

I chose to make Nicole from Washington, DC/Virginia because that’s where my husband grew up and I know the area.

Where do you get your ideas from?

A lot of my ideas come from life. I don’t copy the real world, but events in my life will often make me think “what if it had gone like this?” Those “what if” moments turn into ideas I can use in my books.

Is the puppy in your picture your first Great Dane?

The first thing I should say is that she’s not a puppy anymore 🙂 She’s full grown now, but I love that baby picture of her.

I actually grew up with Great Danes. We had one when I was a child and another when I was a teenager (sadly, they have short lifespans). When I was in university, I bought my first Dane of my own and named her Bronte because I was a huge fan of Emily and Charlotte Bronte. We lost her to bone cancer much too soon.

The Dane in the picture is our current dog. My husband and I brought her home shortly after we were married so we remember her age by our years of marriage and our years of marriage by her age 🙂

How can I join your advance reader team? What is an advance reader team?

An advance reader team is a group of people who enjoy a writer’s work and have agreed to leave an honest review for each new book shortly after it releases. In exchange for their help, they receive a free ebook copy of each book before it’s available for purchase.

Having an advance reader team is so important to an author being able to continue to write. The reviews they leave give other readers confidence that they’ll enjoy the book, and those reviews make it more likely a new reader will buy the book. I’m so grateful for my advance reader team!

If you’d like to join, send me an email through my Contact Form. (I use the form because it makes sure your email doesn’t accidentally end up in my spam folder.)
