Murder on Tap Now Available!

April 1, 2017 by Emily James Leave a Comment

Murder on Tap (Maple Syrup Mysteries Book 4) is now available!

I’m so excited for this new installment in the series. Nicole’s dog are back and playing a much bigger role 🙂

Here’s the description:

The truth doesn’t always set you free…

Former lawyer Nicole Fitzhenry-Dawes thinks she’d be happy to spend her life making maple syrup and never take part in another murder investigation again. At least, she thinks so right up until the photographer she hired dies on the tour she’s leading and the main suspect is her friend’s niece, Holly.

When Holly disappears as well, Nicole faces what looks like a locked-room mystery. One of the people on the tour must have committed the crime, yet none of them could have done it.

To keep an innocent woman from going to prison, Nicole’s thrown right back into the midst of another hunt for a killer.

A killer who knows exactly where she lives…

Almost Sleighed Now Available!

February 26, 2017 by Emily James Leave a Comment

Almost Sleighed, the third book in my amateur sleuth cozy mystery series, is now available!

Here’s the description:

The truth always comes with a price…

Former lawyer Nicole Fitzhenry-Dawes has finally settled in to her new home in Fair Haven, and her first maple syrup season is upon them. It’s not going as smoothly as she’d hoped.

Their sap lines keep springing leaks, and as if that wasn’t enough, Nicole finds their groom-mechanic, Noah, apparently trampled in one of the horse stalls.

Fair Haven’s interim police chief is ready to declare it an accident, but Nicole believes otherwise. With Noah in a coma, she’s determined to figure out who wanted to kill him before the perpetrator can return and finish the job.

But whoever attempted to kill Noah has other ideas and is willing to do whatever it takes to stop Nicole from discovering the truth—even destroy Sugarwood and the man Nicole loves.

Painting of the Week: Cute Mushroom Man

December 10, 2016 by Emily James Leave a Comment

This is my final “pizza box painting,” and I’m so sad this one is on a pizza box and not on a canvas. I want to hang him on my wall. (My husband calls him “creepy,” but one man’s creepy is another woman’s adorable, right?)

I’ve decided I’m going to save up to upgrade my paints from student paints to professional quality paints once I use up what I have. When I finally make the upgrade, I plan to repaint this little guy on a canvas.

Feel free to cast your vote in the comments about whether you think he’s creepy or cute.

Why I Chose This Painting:

It’s a mushroom with feet and eyes! There’s a large part of me that loves the whimsical and that loves fantasy. This little guy appealed to that part of me and made me think about The Smurfs.

Plus, I found it funny to paint a mushroom given that I’m allergic to mushrooms. (The paint color on our living room walls is also called creamy mushroom, which gave my mom and I a good giggle at the time we picked it out.)

Painting of the Week: Sunset Lotus on Water

December 3, 2016 by Emily James Leave a Comment

This is the third painting in my “pizza box series.”

In this painting, I learned how challenging blending can be. Oil paints stay wet a long time, but acrylic paint dries fast, so part of what I’ll need to practice is working a little faster and mastering the right pressure at the seam between the colors. (I know there are also slow-dry blending mediums. I might try one of those as well.)

Why I Chose This Painting:

A lotus plant can survive for hundreds of years, and their seeds can still germinate after a long hibernation. They bloom even when the water around them is dark and dirty.

They’re a reminder to me of the value of determination and resilience. When things in my life are going wrong, the belief that I can survive them and grow stronger from them helps me stay positive and keep from giving up. We can find beauty even in the darkest times.
